MotionPlus release date announced!

Written by Fallen124 on Tuesday, 14 April 20094 Comments

Nintendo’s given a firm release date to Wii MotionPlus, with the add-on hitting European stores on June 12, with the US getting the peripheral on June 8.

Wii Sports Resort, the first in-house effort to support MotionPlus, will be launching sometime afterwards on July 24 (July 26 in the US) – although SEGA’s Virtua Tennis 2009 supports the peripheral and will be available upon the release of MotionPlus. EA’s Grand Slam Tennis and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 will also incorporate MotionPlus and will be available shortly after the add-ons release.

Nintendo of Europe’s Laurent Fischer was on hand to celebrate the news, saying, “Everyone who has played the Wii can remember the moment they first discovered its intuitive controls and realised that this was an incredible new way of experiencing video games. Wii MotionPlus will create that feeling again, taking gameplay to a new level of realism.”

MotionPlus is to cost $19.99 in the US and $49.99 when bundled with Wii Sports Resort, although there are no pricing details for Europe at the time of writing.

Much as I welcome the extra control this peripheral will give us, it pains me to consider paying for it.

In our house we have 3 controllers and 3 nunchuks already. That’s £135 worth of controllers before we even consider adding these motion plus thingies to the equation.

Why the heck can’t they sell them at a loss (£5 maybe, £10 absolute tops) to encourage more people to buy them and increase game sales overall? In the current economic climate my funds are not a bottomless pit.

lets hope that the new motion plus will put new life in to the wii. Cos as we must all agree that the games on the we are getting a bit predictable. as on other consoles, could be that the software company’s have bean waiting for wii plus finger crossed
