Wii MotionPlus Delayed?

Written by a WiiTalk member on Wednesday, 11 March 20094 Comments

Rumours are rife across the gaming industry that Wii MotionPlus has been delayed due to R&D difficulties involving calibration amongst other things.

People started asking questions when Nintendo released their Q2 release schedule a couple of weeks ago, and Wii Sports Resort wasn’t mentioned.  Although no official announcement has come from Nintendo themselves, leaks have suggested that the original 10 mini-game line-up for Wii Sports Resort could be slashed to 8 because of “technical difficulties”, and at present the MotionPlus peripheral needs recalibrating between each game by dipping it off screen and back again.

As the majority of Wii owners prefer it for its simplicity, this is a major drawback, as people are likely to forget to recalibrate resulting in innaccurate movements, and an unsatisfactory gaming experience.  This could be a disaster for Nintendo as bad publicity is the last thing they want!

It must surely be a matter of time before Nintendo step forward to make an official announcement on the subject, especially as the world was expecting Wii Sports Resort to be released in the next few months. As this was the first game to be released using the new peripheral, it will also cause other games in the pipeline to be delayed as well, so the sooner they admit there’s a problem, the better. We’ll update you as we hear more.
