Pikmin 2 & Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (New Play Control!) - Out Tomorrow

Written by M_the_C on Thursday, 23 April 2009No Comment

It’s been nearly three months since the first two New Play Control games were released, one of those being the original Pikmin.  Following a similar paired release style two new titles are due to be released on the 24th April, Pikmin 2 and Donkey Kong Jungle Beat.

Fans of the Pikmin series will tell you that the second is the better of the two, leaving the fixed time period of the first for more open play, plus the addition of multiplayer.  Having arrived back from his trip on an unknown planet, Captain Olimar finds his friend is in financial trouble.  He discovers that an object he kept as a souvenir from his previous trip is worth a lot of money, so he heads back to the land of the Pikmin.  Even though it received universal praise, Pikmin 2 had unfortunately been released at the end of the Gamecubes life, and so has not been as easy to get a hold of as the first.  I was personally looking forward to this release.

Donkey Kong Jungle Beat was not as widely praised as Pikmin 2, but still achieved reasonable reviews.  Whilst the Gamecube version used the special Bongo Drums peripherals, the New Play Control! version will be going back to something more traditional.  Donkey Kong Jungle Beat is in the style of a traditional platformer, however the object is not to get to the end of the level, but to obtain ‘beats’ on your way through.  The New Play Control! version will not just be changing the controls, but also the gameplay, hopefully overcoming some of the original’s flaws.
